Perform advanced fiber and copper testing, certification, and documentation
Conduct site surveys, assist with bidding, and project planning
Oversee full installation scope from rough-in to final turn-up
Ensure quality control, timelines, and safety standards are met
Work with manufacturer standards (Leviton, Panduit, Ortronics, etc.)
What We re Looking For
Experience in commercial structured cabling or telecom installations
Ability to pull, terminate, and test low voltage cabling systems
Blueprint reading skills (Level II & III)
Leadership experience for higher-level roles
Familiarity with EIA/TIA standards
BICSI certifications are a plus (especially for Level III)
Reliable transportation and strong work ethic

Description: Lead Telecom Technician Austin | Take the Lead on High-Profile Projects
Are you an experienced telecom professional ready to step into a leadership role? TradeSTAR is hiring a Lead Telecom Technician for a top-tier low voltage contractor supporting major commercial projects across the Austin area. San Antonio continues to see strong demand in commercial construction and institutional projects your skills will be put to work immediately on meaningful builds.

What You ll Do
Lead crews on structured cabling and telecom installations across commercial job sites
Install, route, and terminate Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling
Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and project specs
Perform rack & stack, MDF/IDF buildouts, and cable management
Oversee pathway installation including J-hooks, ladder rack, and conduit
Handle fiber splicing, testing (OTDR), and certification
Conduct high-level copper testing using Fluke testers and provide documentation
Troubleshoot network connectivity and infrastructure issues
Coordinate daily tasks, materials, and manpower to stay on schedule
Maintain quality control, safety standards, and production goals

Qualifications Who You Are
5+ years of experience in structured cabling / telecom / low voltage
Proven experience leading crews on commercial projects
Strong knowledge of EIA/TIA standards and industry best practices
Experience with fiber optic terminations, testing, and troubleshooting
Skilled in 110/66 blocks, patch panels, and network hardware installation
Ability to manage 5 15 technicians and keep projects moving efficiently
Experience with site surveys, takeoffs, and project coordination is a plus
BICSI certification (Installer or Technician) is a strong plus
Comfortable working independently and making field decisions
Reliable transportation and strong work ethic
