This is how you fit:
The Junior Estimator works under senior estimating personnel to learn to prepare proposals for either negotiated work or to submit as part of a bid. This position is focused on audio-visual applications in commercial, public sector, and industrial settings. This position will be involved with the estimating process which will include analyzing pre-construction documentation such as plans/prints, site surveys, scope, etc. to estimate for labor, materials, travel, time, etc. This position is ideal for mid-level field technicians with strong computer skills who are seeing a path to Project Management. Previous experience estimating is highly desired but not necessary. The Junior Estimator will work closely with the estimating and sales teams to address any discrepancies between the plans and specs with the client/vendor/end user in order to receive clarity and eliminate errors.
Background Profile:
- At least 3-5 years of field experience working on AV installation and retrofit projects for commercial buildings, K-12, higher learning institutions or public sector structures OR experience serving the special systems installation industry in another capacity such as inside sales for a supplier.
- An above-average proficiency in AV installations and retrofit.
- Strong Communication Skills – both written and oral.
- Skilled with a PC and various software such as Microsoft Suite, Excel, Outlook, etc. Experience with estimating software such as Blue Beam is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read prints/plans & specs with expert proficiency.
- Customer service oriented
- Knowledge of the voice/data industry and various structured cabling products, solutions and manufacturers

- Knowledgeable of various aspects of low voltage cabling.
- Previous experience estimating or assisting with estimations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with writing scope and bill of materials.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, etc. at the direction of supervisor.
- Assist with accurately estimating projects in a timely manner.
- Participate in the estimating process from start to finish.
- Prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Work with the estimating team to communicate with the internal sales team, suppliers, and client/end users to define project scope, negotiate pricing, and address any errors or deficiencies.
- Assist with researching quotes from suppliers for materials.
- Stay current on technology trends in the Audio Visual vertical
- Analyze preconstruction documentation.
- Assist with generating change orders and extra work requests.
- Assist with preparing RFI's as requested.
- Participate in walk-throughs with perspective knowledge towards detail for layouts, etc – As Directed.
- Identify new business opportunities and projects to bid.
- Assist with designing cabling schematics.
- Knowledge of building codes and wiring standards.
- Assist team with meeting bid submittal deadlines.
