About the Opportunity
Our client specializes in commercial fire alarm and life safety system installations across healthcare facilities, schools, corporate campuses, and large-scale commercial developments in the Austin market.
As a Fire Alarm Designer, you ll be responsible for producing accurate, code-compliant system layouts and supporting project teams from pre-construction through final approval.
This is a long-term career opportunity with room for advancement into senior design or project management roles.
What You ll Do
Design commercial fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NEC, and local AHJ requirements
Produce shop drawings, riser diagrams, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations
Interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical plans
Coordinate with project managers, field technicians, and general contractors
Perform device layout including smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances, and control panels
Ensure proper circuit integrity and pathway survivability requirements
Prepare submittal packages and assist with permitting processes
Support field teams with technical guidance during installation and commissioning
You ll design systems that inspectors approve and building owners rely on.
What We re Looking For
3+ years of fire alarm system design experience (commercial projects)
Strong knowledge of NFPA 72 and NEC requirements
Experience with AutoCAD (Revit experience is a plus)
Understanding of voltage drop, battery calculations, and load calculations
Familiarity with major manufacturers (Notifier, Silent Knight, Edwards, Simplex, etc.)
NICET certification (preferred but not required)
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Clear communication skills and ability to coordinate across departments
