About the Opportunity
TradeSTAR is hiring an experienced Fire Alarm Designer with a strong NICET background to support a life safety contractor working on commercial and institutional projects throughout the Austin and Central Texas area. With continued growth in healthcare, education, and large commercial construction, this role plays a key part in delivering compliant, dependable fire alarm systems.
If you know NFPA 72, understand how systems are actually installed in the field, and can produce clean, build-ready drawings this is an excellent long-term opportunity.
What You ll Do
Design fire alarm systems for commercial construction projects
Produce shop drawings, riser diagrams, and as-built documentation
Apply NFPA 72 standards and local AHJ requirements
Lay out devices, circuits, panels, and pathways for code compliance
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams
Review construction documents to define system scope and intent
Support submittals, revisions, and acceptance testing documentation
Who You Are
3+ years of fire alarm system design experience
NICET certification (Level II or higher) strongly preferred
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72 and life safety codes
Proficient with AutoCAD (Revit a plus)
Prior field installation or technician experience is a major advantage
Familiar with Central Texas and Austin-area AHJ processes
Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects
